Vince Asta     Canton MI
St. David 1968
Comments: Great memories from a much more simple and innocent time! What I will always remember are the new car introductions in September. The night sky would be lit up with beams of light from WWW-II type search lights that were on the new car dealerships to attract potential buyers to come on down and view the "NEW" cars of the 1950s! When you got to the new car dealerships, the windows of the showrooms would be covered with paper/advertisments/banners to announce what was new!

Watching Johnny Slagle and his partner, a tall blonde whose name escapes me, after school. They had an aquarium and watching the fish was part of the show! I think they were at WXYZ. Also I remember the name
Todd Purse. I know he was at WXYZ. Don't remember if he was a news anchor or what, but he was very cute.

One of the shows I remember watching was "Auntie Dee."

* * * * * * * *
Harry Heilman broadcast the Detroit Tigers games and Tom Clay was the hot new DJ at night and Joe Van and Toby David spun the records in the morning.

Love this Site! Sure remember having "Lunch with Soupy & White Fang"  :-)  Grew up in the Hamtramck Projects,
on Dequindre & Carpenter. Big thing was "cruising" Dixie's on Dequindre &
8 Mile. Then drag racing on Woodward Ave. all the way to Ted's Drive Inn, then back to 8 Mile again! Sunday rides to Kent Lake (renamed Kensington Metro Park). Trips to Ann Arbor by train to watch Michigan football with Mr. Potchynok and the other kids from the Hamtramck Projects !  :-) Loved Hamtramck life, sure do remember a little Polish Lady with a pail of hot soapy water, scrubbing the sidewalk in front of her house! Those days are long gone! :-(  Do you have anything else on Hamtramck?

Eileen: Since I print what's sent to me, how about it, readers, any memories of Hamtramck life?

Comments: When I was a senior in high school, I borrowed my sister's white Rambler. My girlfriend and I skipped school (the one and only time

Listening to Keener 13 radio in the car during the summer and hearing it coming from the other cars on the road too. Sonny and Cher performing at the State Fair. When FM radio was new and The RIF (WRIF) and the Q (WDRQ) became the stations to listen to. The Faygo commercial with all the people on the Boblo boat singing  "...Faygo...
Remember."  HARPO's: THE Disco to be seen at (formerly the Harper Theater), the Winkelman's Rummage Room, and when John Kelly, Bill Bonds, Jerry Hodak and Marilyn Turner were all on the same newscast.
