W E L C O M E !

The Detroit Memories Discussion Group (‘DMDG’) is a membership-based forum
for those who wish to reminisce, ask questions or share their stories or photos of growing up around the Detroit area during the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s.

It was created by me, Eileen Trombley Glick, in November 2003.

We’re a friendly, helpful bunch of former and current Detroiters who are
knowledgable and diverse. Come join our Group and get the answer to that
person, place or thing you’ve been trying for years to remember!

You will find that this forum is unlike others in that it is designed
to be INFORMATIONAL rather than 'chatty.'
We don't discuss Detroit in the present tense
(available on numerous other web forums such as DetroitYes.com),
but only the past tense  with memories we have from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

WHY GUIDELINES?

To ensure that this moderated forum remains informative and intelligent.

You won’t find any foul language, idiotic conversation, screaming, name-calling or spam here, which is often the case in other forums.

______________

1. ALL POSTS MUST INCLUDE A REFERENCE TO A METRO DETROIT PERSON, PLACE OR THING FROM THE 50s, 60s AND/OR 70s ONLY. The reference should be recognizable to at least some of our members.

2.  BE INFORMATIVE. Offer your memories! Don't simply post a question such as “Has anyone ever been to Belle Isle?” Instead, take the opportunity to tell your story. "Growing up, our family made it a tradition to go to Belle Isle for a picnic and a visit to the Children’s Zoo several times each summer.” Post something that will encourage others to tell their stories! This is what makes our forum unique and informational.

3.  ALL POSTS ARE MODERATED. Each post and its Subject Line will be checked for appropriateness before being published. This ensures that the content meets the Guidelines and that the posts and topics are easy to follow. Members will find it easier to sift back through old posts for related content. Moderating also eliminates postential spam.

4.  TALK ABOUT DETROIT THE WAY IT WAS, NOT THE WAY IT IS.  Our objective is to "stick to the past" with memories from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Posts should not include comments about the current condition of Detroit buildings or neighborhoods. What can be discussed are historic sites, landmarks or similar icons that existed in 50s/60s/70s and are now being refurbished or in danger of being demolished. Posts containing remarks or inquiries about current Detroit will
be edited or removed.

5.  WHEN TO TAKE IT TO PERSONAL EMAIL.  In general, your posts and replies should be written with the entire group in mind. For those times when you wish to reply to only one member, especially when you have questions or information that would not be of interest to other members, you may contact them directly via personal email. Email addresses can be found to the right of their post in the forum website.

6.  PLEASE STRIP OUT ALL OF THE UNNECESSARY TEXT. When responding to a post, unless it's pertinent to your response, please remove all the excess text that doesn't doesn't need to be there. Helps keep the clutter minimized.

7.  NO SOLICITING / NO HARASSMENT of any DMDG member for any purpose, including product sales, mailing lists, joining of a group, etc. Product advertising, either in posts or signature line, will be edited out.

8.  NO POSTING OF LINKS TO WEBSITES selling merchandise that compete with www.everythingdetroitstore.com. Why? Because the sales from this store help offset the costs of hosting www.DetroitMemories.com, the website that brings you this Group!

9.  POST RECIPES IN THE FILES SECTION OF THE FORUM. Detroit-related recipes can be uploaded as TXT or PDF files.

10. POSTING CLASS REUNIONS or FINDING FRIENDS / CLASSMATES is not permitted. Contact WOMC (http://womc.radio.com/reunions/) or
C&G Newspapers (www.candgnews.com/Reunions.asp) to list your event. If you're searching for someone, go to www.classmates.com or www.classreports.org.

11. UPLOAD ONLY YOUR OWN PHOTOS or ones you have permission from the owner or distributor to use. Do not copy and upload photos from other websites since it may constitute copyright infringement.

12. BE RESPECTFUL. Members who submit posts or who contact other members with negative or profane comments about this group, one of its members, or its moderator, will have their membership cancelled.

13. DUPLICATE RESPONSES HAPPEN. There are times when your submitted post may contain the same or similar response as another member. To avoid duplicity, the most informative response will be published. (Members who receive a copy of every post in their personal email Inboxes appreciate this selection process.)

14. DON’T TAKE IT PERSONALLY. When it comes to the Guidelines, everyone slips up on occasion. If your post happens to contain content that doesn't meet the Guidelines, it will simply be edited out and the remainder of your post will be published. If the entire post is affected, an email will be sent to you with a link to the Guideline/s
.

BEFORE YOU RESPOND TO A POST...
