______________
RULE #1
ALL POSTS AND RESPONSES MUST INCLUDE
a Detroit area-based person, place or thing from the ‘50s, ‘60s or ‘70s
that is recognizable to at least some of us who grew up around there.
2. BE INFORMATIVE. If, for example, someone posts a question in the Group, such as “Has anyone ever been to Belle Isle?”, instead of simply responding “Oh yes, I have!,” take the opportunity to respond with a memory of your own, such as “Yes, I went there on picnics with my family and visited the Children’s Zoo.”
3. ALL POSTS ARE MODERATED. This means that each post, as well as its Subject Line, will be checked for appropriateness before being published. This
ensures that the content meets the Guidelines, and that the posts and topics are is easy to follow. Members who sift back through and research old posts are especially appreciative of this type of moderating.
4. TAKE IT TO PERSONAL EMAIL. In general, posts should be written with the entire Group in mind, not just one individual. If you wish to correspond with another member about a topic or issue that would not be of interest to the entire group (such as having a question about a particular teacher, thanking someone for something they located for you, wondering if they're related to so-and-so, etc.),
please take it to personal email. Email addresses of members can be found in the Forum to the right of their post.
5. STRIP OUT ALL OF THE UNNECESSARY TEXT when responding to a post — unless it’s pertinent to your response. If you respond to a post from your personal email address, kindly strip out the [detroit memories] that appears in the Subject Line.
6. NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT DETROIT, including disparaging references, photos or website links having to do with the current condition of buildings, certain areas and neighborhoods. It isn’t in keeping with our theme. Exceptions are historic sites or landmarks in existence during the 50s, 60s and/or 70s that are being refurbished or are in danger of being demolished.
7. NO SOLICITING of any type of business or product without prior permission. That includes any form of advertising in the body of the post or in your signature line.
9. DO NOT POST RECIPES IN THE MAIN FORUM. HOWEVER, Detroit-related recipes can be uploaded as TXT or PDF files in the FILES section of the Forum.
11. UPLOAD ONLY YOUR OWN PHOTOS or ones you have permission from the owner or distributor to use. Do not copy and upload photos from other websites since it may constitute copyright infringement.
12. BE RESPECTFUL. Members who submit posts or who contact other members
with negative or profane comments about this group, one of its members, or its moderator, will have their membership cancelled.
1. DON’T TAKE IT PERSONALLY. There are times when several responses contain the same or similar information. To avoid duplicity, the most informative response will be published and the others will be deleted. Again, the reason is because many of our members have chosen to receive a copy of every post in their personal email Inboxes, so they appreciate this selection process.
If your post or photo is does not meet these established Guidelines, it will be deleted without being published. If time permits, you may receive a private email informing you of the reason.
BEFORE YOU RESPOND TO A POST...
keep in mind that
you’re actually sending an email to 500+ people!
Many of our members have chosen to receive
a copy of every post in their personal email Inboxes,
another reason why adhering to these Guidelines is so important.
