READ AND UNDERSTAND THE GUIDELINES BEFORE YOU SIGN UP
W E L C O M E !
The Detroit Memories Discussion Group (‘DMDG’) is a membership-based forum
for those who wish to reminisce, ask questions or share their stories or photos of growing up around the Detroit area during the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s.
It was created by me, Eileen Trombley Glick, in November 2003.
We’re a friendly, helpful bunch of former and current Detroiters who are knowledegable and diverse, so come join our Group and get the answer to that question you’ve wondered about for years!

WHY GUIDELINES?
To ensure that this moderated forum remains informative and intelligent. You won’t
find any foul language, idiotic conversation, screaming, name-calling or spam here, often the case in many other forums.

______________
ALL POSTS MUST INCLUDE
a Detroit area-based person, place or thing from the ‘50s, ‘60s or ‘70s
that is recognizable to at least some of us who grew up around there.
BEFORE YOU RESPOND TO A POST...
keep in mind
you’re actually sending an email to 450+ people.
Many of our members have chosen to receive
a copy of every post in their personal email Inboxes,
which is why items #1 through #4 below are important.
1. BE INFORMATIVE. Please don’t confuse this Discussion Group with a Chat Room; it is not. All posts should be informative and contain at least one reference mentioned above. If, for example, someone posts a question in the Group, such as “Has anyone ever been to Belle Isle?,” instead of simply responding “Oh yes,
I have!,” take the opportunity to respond with a memory of your own, such as
“Yes, I went there on picnics with my family and visited the Children’s Zoo.”
2. CHANGE THE SUBJECT LINE WHEN YOU CHANGE THE SUBJECT.This also pertains to responses by members who receive posts from this Group by way of email. Changing the Subject line makes it easier to follow a particular topic when receiving new (or researching old) posts.
3. DON’T ‘PIGGYBACK’ SUBJECT LINES. For example, a Subject line titled ‘Lady of Charm’ should not turn into ‘Lady of Charm - Dick Purtan.’ In this case, the member should post their comments (if any) about the Lady of Charm and then create a new post with the Subject line of Dick Purtan.
4. TAKE IT TO PERSONAL EMAIL. Posts should be created with the entire Group in mind, not just one individual. If you wish to correspond with another member about a topic not related to our theme, or one that would not be of interest to the rest
of the group (such as thanking someone for something they located for you, making a personal connection, etc.), or one that is directed to another member specifically (begins with a ‘Dear So-and-so...’), please take it to personal email. Email addresses
of members can be found in the Forum to the right of their post.
5. STRIP OUT THE UNNECESSARY TEXT when responding to a post — unless it’s pertinent to your response.
6. NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT DETROIT. This type of conversation isn’t productive and isn’t in keeping with our the theme.
7. NO SOLICITING of any type of business or product without prior permission. That includes any form of advertising in the body of the post or in your signature line.
9. DO NOT POST RECIPES IN THE MAIN FORUM. HOWEVER, Detroit-related recipes can be uploaded as TXT or PDF files in the FILES section of the Forum.
10. BE RESPECTFUL. Members who use profanity or who make negative remarks about other members, whether within the forum or in personal email, will be removed and banned.
11. UPLOAD ONLY YOUR OWN PHOTOS or ones you have permission from the owner or distributor to use. Do not copy and upload photos from other websites since it may constitute a copyright infringement.
12. DON’T TAKE IT PERSONALLY. If your post or photo is not in keeping with these Guidelines, your post will be removed and you will be sent a private email informing you of the reason. Consider it a gentle reminder. No big deal. However, repeated warnings will result in your removal from this Group.
